![]() I think you are thinking of the VZ-52 which is chambered for 7.62x45mm. The VZ58 are all chambered for 7.62x39mm. unfortunately cali-FALs are definitely outta the budget, and I'm afraid of the lack of spare parts on something like an SVT. at least for our besieged state, i personally prefer 10 rd strippers to 10 rd mags. however, if i recall correctly, isn't it in some oddball 7.62 caliber that's hard to find, and presumably even harder to pay for?Īnd not to get too far from the topic, but i really wish there were more stripper clip loaded semi-autos around. Kinda cool looks like it's what happens when an ak and sks get a bit too intimate. If there are any Vz58 US-mfgd "compliance parts" I'd check Ohio Ordnance Works and related VZ58 kit importers. So adding a US mfgd pistol grip, handguard, stock and muzzle attachment would cover 7 parts and prob get you over the threshold. These also would be less irritating since it'd be a fixed mag not being changed out anyway. There can be confusion on this sometimes - for example, for FAL-style rifles, the BATF counts the charging handle as an 'op rod' even though it most certainly ain't.ĭo know that US-mfgd mag bodies, floorplates and followers can count as key parts. First you have to find out which of the twentyish key parts listed by ATF this rifle actually has - a typical semiauto battle rifle usu has 15-17 of these and thus requires 5-7 US mfg 'compliance parts' to be legit under 922(r). To play it safe, you'd do the 10-or-less parts game. This sporting vs nonsporting is subjective determination of BATF. But if you have a rifle 'not particularly suited for sporting uses' - which this could well be - and made from a collection of foreign parts you might have to play the 10-or-less game as mandated by 922(r)/CFR 178.39.Īssembled with a 10rd fixed mag and without a flash hider, G/L or night sights it might be considered a regular 'sporting' rifle but maybe not since it has pistol grip. ![]()
